EPDM
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a durable rubber roofing membrane commonly used on flat and low-slope roofs. It typically comes in large black sheets, allowing for fewer seams and easier installation. EPDM is known for its long lifespan, flexibility in extreme temperatures, and strong resistance to UV rays and weathering.
Its advantages include excellent durability, low maintenance, and strong performance in cold climates because it stays flexible. It’s also one of the longest-lasting flat-roof materials available. The downsides are that the black surface can absorb heat (raising cooling costs), seams are usually glued rather than welded, and it can be more easily punctured by sharp objects. Overall, EPDM is a reliable, long-lasting option for low-slope roofs.
